Politische Themen sind ein gern gesehener Gast im Feld der bildenden Kunst.
Gleichzeitig scheint in der westlichen Gesellschaft insgesamt ein Unwille zur grundsätzlichen Veränderung der politischen, sozialen und ökonomischen Verhältnisse bestimmend zu sein.

Eskapismus, der bewusste und unbewusste Unwille sich der komplexen und widersprüchlichen Realität zu stellen, scheint auf allen Seiten en vogue.
Die Kommunikation mit dem Anderen, nicht Eigenen, wird gescheut oder verweigert.
Die Energie wird verbraucht in Projekten der (Selbst-)Analyse, der (Selbst-) Stabilisierung oder sogar der (Selbst-)Restauration des vermeintlich originär Eigenen.

Priorität hat die Konservierung der Gegenwart, nicht die Perspektive der Zukunft.

Gleichzeitig beobachten wir eine verstärkte Nutzung der Strukturen der Kunst und Kultur als Freiraum des politischen Denkens (und Handels) in Form von Ausstellungen, Symposien, Panels, Workshops, Publikationen u.ä.

Wird nun auch dem Politischen in einer Nische Platz gemacht … und es gleichzeitig aus dem Mainstream verdrängt?

Unser Interesse besteht darin, eine Erörterung und eine Reflexion über vielfältige gemeinschaftliche Arbeits- und Lebensmodelle und deren Chancen, Probleme und Herausforderungen anzustoßen und Ideen zu entwickeln, wie ein Austausch und Wirken zwischen den eskapistischen Lagern der Gegenwart wie auch mit einer größeren Öffentlichkeit aussehen könnte.

Anschließend an eine dreiwöchige Inkubationszeit mit Diskussionen, Aktionen und Versuchen mit Gleichgesinnten, werden sich ab dem 15.Dezember in den Schaufenstern des Lothringer13_Ladens nun die Formen der Repräsentation vorgeknüpft, um eine Überführung in eine breitere Öffentlichkeit zu versuchen.

Political topics have become welcome guests in the field of fine arts.
At the same time, there seems to be a general reluctance in western society to fundamentally change the political, social and economical conditions.

Escapism, the conscious or unconscious reluctance to confront a complex and contradictory reality, seems to be en vogue all over the place.
Communication with the other, the non-self, is avoided or rejected.
The energy is used up in projects of (self-)analysis, (self-)stabilisation or even
(self-)restauration of the alledged original self.

It is the conservation of the present condition that has top priority, not the modelling of a future.

At the same time, we are wittnessing that structures of art and culture are more and more used as spaces for political thinking (and acting) be it in forms of exhibitions, symposia, discussions, workshops, publication or other.

Is it now, that the political is displaced into a niche … and thereby at the same time squeezed out of the mainstream?

It is in our interest, to start a consideration and a reflection about manifold models of collective working and living, about their chances, problems and challenges. We would like to collectively develop ideas how an exchange and a working together of the camps of escapism could look like and how that eventually could affect a greater public.

Following a three week long incubation period with discussions, actions and attempts with like minded people and starting from the 15th of december, there will be a go at the forms of representation, to try a transfer to a wider public.

Ab Ende November lädt der Lothringer13_Laden verschiedene Akteure ein, um sich diesen und ähnlichen Fragen zu nähern, sich auszutauschen, in Kommunikation zu treten.

Was bedeutet heute Gemeinschaft, was bedeutet kollektives Arbeiten?
Wie müssten Räume/Strukturen für solch ein Leben bzw. Arbeiten beschaffen sein?
Wie lassen sie sich heute herstellen und erhalten?
Wie entsteht und/oder besteht Austausch?
… und warum machen wir das eigentlich?

How to render the boundaries of the self more permeable?
How to communicate with the other?
How to allow for a development, that is more than the reproduction of the status quo?

Starting from the end of november 2011, Lothringer13_Laden is inviting different actors to approach these and similar questions, to exchange, to enter into communication.

What does collective living or community mean, what is collective working?
How would spaces for such a collective living or working have to be conditioned?
How could they be generated and maintained?
Is there or how could there be exchange?
… and why are we doing this anyway?

Boards, bags and tarpaulins instruct. Deciding on the setting is the main directory. The shapes in the prints and painted sculptures in Marianne Hurum’s exhibition at Lothringer13_Laden derive from things that are scattered around in the immediate surroundings. These things become brushes and other tools in abstracting and composing. The palette picks up on surrounding color combinations found in the design of local newspapers, shop signs, clothing and house colors.

Hurum’s work for Lothringer13_Laden in Munich further develops a way of painting that she started in between the woods of Norway and the desert of California and continued in Paris in the summer of 2011.

Marianne Hurum is educated at the Malmø Art Academy, The UIC in Chicago and Oslo National Academy of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Oslo.

From 17th July to 31st August 2011, Maria Guggenbichler and Rosalie Schweiker were artists in residence at Lothringer13_Laden.
On the last day of their residency, they sent out an email which you can see here or in this PDF.

Eindeutigkeit sells. Sei es in Form von gut konstruierten Identitäten, perfekten Repräsentationen, altbekannten Wahrheiten oder auch intensiven Gefühlen.

Geschlossene Kategorien, perfekte Modelle, klare Grenzen, althergebrachte Wahrheiten, eindeutige Feinde, starke Gefühle ermöglichen nachvollziehbare Politik, starke Messages, gute Werbung, eindeutige Informationen, effiziente Planung, eine genaue Zielführung, hohe Rendite, viel Aufmerksamkeit. Und auch der Fakt, dass in “der außersprachlichen Wirklichkeit“ wenig überraschend dann doch alles nicht immer so eindeutig, klar und planbar oder in cultural studies Sprache ausgedrückt: nicht so repräsentativ, homogen, stereotyp, identisch, geschlossen, natürlich ist, hat auch – abgesehen von einigen Nischen – nicht zu einer Veränderung der hegemonialen Stellung dieses Prinzips geführt. Stattdessen hat sich ein Markt der Dekonstruktion, der Entmystifizierung oder allgemeiner der Kritik gebildet, durch den nun spätestens jetzt alle wissen, dass es in der Welt böse zugeht.

Viel interessanter als das Spiel der Identitäten, Repräsentationen, Traditionen und Gefühle bzw. das der Dekonstruktion, Entmythifizierung und Kritik könnten stattdessen aber vielleicht andauernde un- oder nur schwer auflösbare Auseinandersetzungen, uneindeutige oder zu komplexe (eventuell sich verändernde) Standpunkte oder auch Verschleierungen, Überforderungen und Störungen sein.

Die Veranstaltungsreihe “lim (n→∞)“ versucht in diesem Sinne eine (niemals abgeschlossene) Annäherung an verschiedene Phänomene und ist als begleitende Veranstaltung zu der von der holländischen Künstlerinitiative Stiftung Noordkaap in München organisierten Ausstellung “Adios Holanda” (Whitebox, 24.06. bis 09.07.2011) konzipiert.

Non-ambiguity sells. Be it as well constructed identities, perfect representations, well-known truths or intensive emotions.

Closed categories, perfect models, clear boundaries, well-known truths, well-defined enemies and strong emotions allow for comprehensible politics, strong messages, good advertisements, non-ambigious information, efficent planning, an accurate guidance, high rates of return and lots of attention. And even the fact that in „extra-linguistic reality“ things unsurprisingly aren’t always that unambigious, clear and planable (or, to say it in cultural studies language: aren’t always that representative, homogenous, stereotypical, identical, closed or natural) hasn’t – except for some niches – really lead to a fundamental change of the hegemonic position of this principle. Instead, a market for deconstruction and demystification or more generally speaking a market for critique was constituted, due to which, at the latest by now, everybody knows that there are bad things happening in our post-democratic world.

But much more interesting than this game of identites, representation, traditions and emotions, or as the case may be that of deconstruction, demystification and critique, could be strategies as for example enduring and not at all or only difficultly to resolve arguments, ambigious or too complex (maybe changing) positions or also obscuration, non-communication and disturbance.

The program series “lim (n→∞)“ therefore attempts an (never to be accomplished) approximation to different phenomena and is conceived as an accompanying program to the exhibition “Adios Holanda” (Whitebox, 24.06. until 09.07.2011) organised by the Dutch foundation Noordkaap.

Was ich in mir sehe beim lesen, hat doch nichts mit den Vorstellungen des Autors zu tun. Und was in den Texten Bernhards zu lesen steht, sind aber gleichwohl nicht die Säle im Kunsthistorischen Museum oder ein Gemälde von Tintoretto, sondern Sätze.
